Frozen Shoulder (Adhesive Capsulitis) is a condition characterized by stiffness, pain, and restricted movement in the shoulder joint. It occurs when the shoulder capsule thickens and tightens, limiting mobility. The condition typically develops gradually and progresses through three stages: freezing (painful), frozen (stiffness), and thawing (recovery). It is more common in people over 40, especially those with diabetes, previous shoulder injuries, or prolonged immobility. Treatment includes physical therapy, medications, corticosteroid injections, and, in severe cases, arthroscopic surgery to restore movement and reduce pain.
Causes: Inflammation, immobilization, diabetes, post-surgery effects.
Symptoms: Shoulder pain, stiffness, and limited range of motion.
Stages: Freezing (pain), Frozen (stiffness), Thawing (recovery).
Treatment: Physiotherapy, pain management, steroid injections, surgery (if needed).
Prevention: Early movement after injuries or surgery to avoid stiffness.
